Asking and telling the time

When talking about expressing the time, we use the following vocabulary for asking the right time and for answering:

Ø  Excuse me, please! What time is it ?

Ø  Excuse me, can you tell me the time, please?

Ø  Yes, of course. It is ……… .

Ø  Thanks!

Ø  You′ re welcome.

It is ……. o′clock. = Este …….. fix.

It is half past …….. . Este …… si jumãtate.

It is ……… thirty. Este ……. si 30.

It is a quarter past ……… Este ….. și un sfert.

It is ….. fifteen. Este ……. si 15 .

It is a quarter to …………. . Este …. fãrã un sfert.

It is ……… forty-five. Este …… și 45.

Past = și  

Eg. Este 9 si 10. 

ü  It is ten past nine.

To = fãrã

Eg. Este 9 fãrã 10.

ü  It is eight fifty.(8: 50)

 Expressing likes and dislikes

When we talk about hobbies, we make reference to the words like and dislike

like = love, enjoy , fancy, adore

dislike = not like, hate, can′t stand, loathe (strong hate), detest

The verbs of likes and dislikes are followed by:

ü  a noun – I like cakes.

ü  a verb in the – ing form – We like dancing.

If we are indifferent, we use do not mind .

Other special expressions, may include:

ü  I neither like nor dislike.= Mi-e indiferent.

ü  I really like.= Chiar îmi place.

ü  I cannot stand.= Nu support.

ü  I do not mind.= Nu imi pasã.

ü  To be crazy about= a fi înnebunit dupã…..

ü  To be keen on= a fi priceput la
